Man arrested with sawed off shotgun

Patrick James Robertson, 48, of Proctor was arrested in the early morning hours of Monday (Oct. 1) after a Hermantown Patrol Officer observed a vehicle with the rear license plate obscured with paper toweling pull into Pure Pleasure, (A 24 hour Hermantown business). The officer was aware of an earlier complaint by Pure Pleasure employees of a suspicious male possibly casing the store in preparation of a robbery. The officer parked nearby and within minutes, the vehicle pulled out of the business at which time the officer initiated a traffic stop of the Dodge Durango.

Upon speaking with Robertson, Officer Jozef Miketin observed the barrel of a shotgun exposed near the passenger seat of the truck. Upon further investigation, Officer Miketin discovered the weapon to be a loaded sawed off shotgun.

Robertson was immediately taken into custody without incident. It is believed the officers’ presence thwarted the suspect’s plan of carrying out this robbery. Further investigation though witness accounts and search warrants executed at the man’s Proctor home and vehicles, lead investigators to believe this individual was planning on robbing Pure Pleasure and is responsible for the 2006 robbery of the business and possibly other area robberies.

Robertson was formally charged with the following:
1. Aggravated Robbery in the First Degree
2. Possession of a Short Barreled Shotgun

Bail has been set at $50,000.00. Robertson’s next court appearance has been scheduled for October 22nd, 2007 at 1:30 pm.

Hermantown Police were assisted by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s and Proctor Police Departments.
